The potential loss of a home is one of the most painful and stressful events a person can face. In this situation, it often is difficult to know what to do or who to contact for help. While I cannot give a specific solution for everyone, I would like to mention some of the legitimate resources that are available, and provide a brief explanation of each.
A good starting point is the "Making Home Affordable" program, which is part of the Federal Governments Financial Stability Plan. This program provides a consumer Web site (www.makinghomeaffordable.gov that can help homeowners determine if they qualify for the program. The site also provides lists of free U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-approved housing counselors and homeowner events, which provide education to consumers on foreclosure prevention.
